Media Production Skills Training

Our media production program teaches people with disabilities audio, video, camera, editing, scriptwriting, logistics, voiceover, team dynamics, leadership and other media production skills. Participants are trained by media industry and career development professionals who prepare them for general employment and careers in audio, video and other areas of areas of media.

Career Development

All program participants are required to complete comprehensive career development training. In addition to their particular career area of interest, students are taught professional culture, teamwork, application, resume and interviewing skills. The application of these skills are taught in conjunction with the individual career path they select.

Disability Resource Consulting

Because finding disability services and resources can be daunting especially when initially incurring a permanent or temporary disability, we help connect individuals with disabilities and their caregivers with service providers. We exhaust all avenues to help our clients find the resources needed for them to live their best lives.

UB-Me Inclusion Corporate/Business Training

We create immersive role-play experiences where participants self-identify allowing them to shed biases and insensitivities that hinder optimum equitable solutions. Participants are placed in familiar or relatable employment scenarios where they either interview, manage tasks or function in some other way as a person with a disability. Exercises are designed for individuals or teams and can be conducted virtually or in-person. The UB-Me program helps cultivate objective mindsets for selecting competent, inclusive talent. It reinforces perspectives that helpbemployers reach hiring goals and promote HR cultures that authentically embrace eequity.

Yes! You Can! Podcast

This project serves as both a central platform that distributes disability resource and service information and a career training program that teaches people with disabilities marketable career skills. We produce our regular in-house podcast at WJOU’s studios. The podcast shares resources, services and other disability-related information. It also highlights personal stories from people with disabilities. Additionally, we work on-location with community partners interested in creating video overviews/interviews, PSAs and other media that help inform the community about disability services. We began filming interviews for service agencies on December 15th at the Riley Center, a specialized facility providing comprehensive services for children and young adults with Autism Spectrum Disorders. More agencies are scheduled for video features beginning January 2026. Our current trainees are being taught how to conduct full productions on their own using interviewing, equipment set up, lighting, camera operation, voiceovers and editing skills. They are also assigned a career coach to help them contrast and apply the media skills they’re learning with careers protocols such as punctuality, teamwork, proficiency and professionalism.
