About Us

IDefy, Inc is a 501(c)(3) dedicated to leveling the playing field for people with disabilities and other underconsidered populations. We employ unique methods of technology, training and empowerment that assist individuals in developing marketable skills. We also work to foster proactive, inclusive mindsets among the nondisabled.

Renee' Scruggs, IDefy, Inc

Renee' Scruggs became a self-dvocate for disability awareness and empowerment after being severely and permanently injured in 1979 car accident. As a result of losing one leg and partial use of the other she focused on leveling the playing field for underserved and disabled populations.

 

Ms. Scruggs is the Director of IDefy, Inc, a nonprofit that promotes self-empowerment

through independent living, sustainability and entrepreneurial training.

 

Through her former entity Disability Solution Services, LLC (DSS), Ms. Scruggs has taken her message of diversity and inclusion across the country to government, commercial, civic and other groups. As an accommodation and resource specialist for the Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services (ADRS), she provided career, leadership, pre-employment, and transitional training services. As a small business coach, Ms. Scruggs has provided start-up and other business advisement services through DSS as well as for the Catalyst Center for Business and Entrepreneurship. She has conducted inclusion trainings for NASA, the Corp of Engineers, the Society for Human Resource Management/SHRM and the Association of People Supporting Employment First (APSE) and other organizations across the country.

 

Ms. Scruggs has served as a member of the Huntsville Area Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities and as the Director of Diversity & Inclusion also Workforce Readiness for the Society for Human Resource Management—North Alabama Chapter. She currently serves as an Ambassador for the City of Huntsville through the Civic Engagement Academy program. She is a member of the City of Huntsville Disability Advisory and Vision Zero Traffic Safety Committees. She also serves on the Alabama Assistive Technology Act Council, is an Advisor for People First of Alabama, a proud member of the Pivot To Your Next academy development team and co-host for the Think It Over and Yes! You Can! audio podcast. Ms. Scruggs is also the author of GROWN, a life-affirming account of her 1979 car accident.

 

Ms. Scruggs is a resident of the Huntsville, Alabama area. She holds a Bachelors in Communications, a Master in Business Administration and a Masters in Management and believes that faith is a theory—until tested.
